The International RoboSub Competition, hosted by RoboNation, takes place annually in Irvine, CA, and brings together student teams from around the world. In 2025, SDSU Mechatronics placed 5th out of 55 international teams with our autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) Caracara.

The competition challenges teams to design and operate fully autonomous submarines capable of completing a complex underwater obstacle course. RoboSub pushes teams to integrate mechanical design, embedded systems, and advanced control software, making it one of the most rigorous robotics competitions worldwide.
